A square wave generator is one of those pieces of equipment that has many uses in the workshop yet few hobbyists actually have. This simple kit, based on the popular 555 timer IC, generates six preset frequencies from 1Hz to 100khz. It has a wide operating voltage range and even provides visual indication of the output. It works from 5V to 15V DC supply and provides 50% duty cycle square wave output.

There is a jumper for setting mode of operation. It can either be fixed or variable. When it is operated in FIXED mode the selected fixed frequency through jumper is output. If the mode is set to variable the onboard preset can be adjusted to get variable frequency output. In fixed mode the preset has no use. To test you can first put the frequency jumper to 1Hz mode, it means output will be on for one second and off for one second. This change is visible on the LED. You can change mode jumper to variable and adjust preset. You can see how LED blinks fast and slow as you adjust the preset around 1Hz range. You can now move to higher frequency as required.

This board can be excellent source for square waves signals. It has many uses as pulse generators, power supplies, test equipments, stepper motor driver step generator and many.
